You can’t visit Tuscany without trying its amazing regional cuisine. Don’t miss the amazing white truffles and incredible local breads.

Outdoor markets

Like many Italian regions, Tuscany offers several good outdoor and flea markets. Every month the town of Arezzo holds a flea market in the Piazza Grande which is one of the best in Italy. In Florence on the third weekend of the month you should check out the famous Straw market, held in Loggia del Porcellino. In the town of Lucca, a large market is held on the third weekend of every month. Here you will find lots of furniture items, antique ceramics and traditional handmade lace. Every Wednesday a market is also held in the Piazza Marconi where you will find clothing and cashmere products.

Florence is a paradise for shoppers. The city is known for its many shopping venues and chic boutiques, but if you are looking for bargains then you should head outside the city. About 45 minutes from Florence in the town of Leccio you will find a designer outlet center known as the Mall. Here you will find Gucci, Tod’s, Armani, AX Jeans, Fendi, Ferragamo and Burberry stores at reduced prices. In order to buy gold or silver jewelry you should walk along the Ponte Vecchio or head to Via Tornabuoni and Via Vigna Nuova for the designer boutiques.

In picturesque Siena you may purchase incredible handicrafts and local artifacts unique to the city. Beautiful ties, paper, fabrics, gold jewelry and tapestries are all produced in Siena. The main street in the city, Via di Citta, has lots of good shops selling bags, purses and other leather products. Don’t miss popular Siena-based brands like Intimissimi, Upim, Benetton and Furla.

If you prefer outdoor shopping in Siena, then every Wednesday there is a large local market held close to Fortrezza Mediceana. Here you will find good quality wine, olive oil and cheese. The Montestigliono Olive estate is located close to the city and visitors can visit local olive groves and purchase bottles of extra virgin olive oil.
