Parma is a city in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna and is a capital of the province of Parma. Located in northern Italy, the province extends from the Po River down to the Apennines crest separating it from Tuscany. The city is divided into two halves by a river – the Torrente Parma.
Parma is most famous for its production of Prosciutto di Parma and Parmesan cheese. It is also famous for its stunning architecture, beautiful countryside and wonderful history of music. There are lots of beautiful buildings of all types and ages. The University of Parma which was founded in the year 1117 which makes it one of the oldest universities in the world. You will also find a lot of churches, cathedrals and palaces in the city which are worth to be seen.
Since Roman times, the Province of Parma has been a source of thermal waters. Thermal spas in the area are ample due to the abundance of these mineral-rich waters. The most famous spa resorts are located in Salsomaggiore boasting Art-Nouveau- style buildings and high-quality treatments. The thermal spas located in Tabiano, Sant’Andrea Bagni and Monticelli are also very reputed and all surrounded by nature and peace and silence.
There are also festivals and events which are worth to be attended, are held in Parma. These include the Carnival of Busseto which is established in the 19 th century and conducted with masks, dances and music as well as the Tenzone Medievale held in the Bardi Castle which is a medieval tournament with archers, knights, dancers, nobles and minstrels.

There is the National Park of the Tuscan-Emillian Apennines which offers corners of pristine nature and opportunities for excursions both historical and cultural, discoveries of medieval villages and fortresses. Also there is the Regional Park of the Carrega Woods better known as the ‘One Hundred Lakes Park’.
