Padua is a city and commune in Veneto region of Italy with population of 214, 000 inhabitants. It stands on the Bacchiglione River.

The city of art

The city is one of the most important art cities in the country with medieval city walls, amazing buildings and the foundation of the university in 1222 that attracts masters and students from all of Europe. Luminaries such as Dante, Petrarch, Galileo, Copernicus and Donatello have contributed to the city’s reputation as a center of learning. Ancient Padua was a wealthy center of commerce and an old university town with an illustrious academic history.

University of Padua

World-famous university of Padua was governed by a board of three patricians. In this establishment Elena Lucrezia Cornaro Piscopia became the first woman in the world to graduate. The university also hosts the oldest botanical garden in the world which was founded as the garden of curative herbs attached to the University’s faculty of medicine. It still contains an important collection of rare plants. The presence of the university attached many distinguished artists.

One of the most important sight in Padua is The Antonarium, the Saint Anthony church and the Botanic Garden which was built in 1897 by the Jesuit fathers. During World War II, it became the center of the resistance movement against the Nazis.

Euganei Hills

The southeast of Padua is occupied by the Euganei Hills which enclose the largest thermal area in Europe. The Terme Euganei are worldwide famous for their therapeutic waters. The principal spa centers are Abano, Montegrotto and Galzigano Terme which offer mud bath therapies and many of the most modern beauty and wellness treatments.

Padua is made up of a vast network of navigable waterways which provides you an amazing opportunity to take a cruise tour in order to see the city from a different perspective.
