There are lots of different accommodation options in Italy from hotels to apartments, hostels and Bed and Breakfasts. The process of searching and booking the right one for you may be frustrating. So, here are some tips that will help you to make the process easier and choose the best option for you.
- Location. This is the most important factor when it comes to choosing accommodation. Your hotel’s location will determine whether it will be convenient for you for sightseeing. In cities, look for a place which is very close to the squares or has an easy access to the city center. Consider staying at place from which you will be able to walk to the sights. In the countryside, consider staying at the ‘Agriturismo’ and make sure it has good location and is accessible to the transport or car rental facility.
- Choose the type of accommodation. There are apartments, Bed and Breakfasts, hotels, and an ‘Agriturismo’ options in Italy. It is better to consider B&Bs and apartments first as these represent better value than hotels. B&Bs offer the traveler a much greater chance of being taken care of and appreciated and usually cheaper than other options, but are located only in the countryside, far from the city. Apartments are, of course, the best choice and represent the best value. You can save up to 40% on an apartment over an equivalent hotel. Apartments are mostly available in larger cities and usually require a 3-night minimum stay. For countryside destinations, the best option is to stay at ‘Agriturismo’.
- Breakfast. It is noteworthy that in Italian hotels you won’t find big continental buffets. Many Italians don’t even eat breakfast at all and at the most, have a pastry with coffee. So, if you used to substantial breakfast, it is recommended to specifically look for it before booking a room and ask exactly what foods will be there.
- Choose a place with limited rooms. It is always better to stay at small places with limited amount of rooms as these tend to be with homey atmospheres and friendly staff. It’s also recommended to book a room you like as far in advance as possible.
